April Ross
April Ross has won more than one medal at the Olympics. She is one of the few female beach volleyball players that have done so. Alix Klineman is the newest Olympian and will join her in Tokyo. Ross also hopes to get her first Olympic gold. This may be the last opportunity she gets as she is 39 years old. She's certain that the top prizes are within reach. Ross said on NBC Boston that if they are at their absolute best or play a great game and they are able to play well, the team will be able to win the gold medal. In addition, I'm planning to rely on a bit of luck. Ross was born in the city of Costa Mesa, California in 1982. Her parents and sister lived in the area. Ross played in numerous sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. She played basketball and ran track in addition to her indoor volleyball achievements as a pre-collegiate athlete. She was definitely a cut above the rest when it came to the second sport. During her high school career she was a middle blocker outside setter and hitter in the court for volleyball, according to her bio at the college. Her efforts were recognized in 1999 when she was named Gatorade's National Circle of Champions Players of the Year. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her due to her volleyball skills. Ross is playing alongside Klineman since the year 2017, but Ross's beach game was well-established long before this. It's true that she's won multiple big tournaments as well as one of her partners was a volleyball superstar. From 2007 to 2013 she was in a partnership by Jennifer Kessy, who is now her coach. Along together with Kessy, Ross won a World Title in 2009 when she competed on the international circuit. In 2012, the duo won silver at London's Olympic Games. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team that could take home the gold. Ross became Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. The team won bronze in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross was a student athlete for USC Trojans before the start of her professional career. She played in high school, and even years prior to hitting the beach as a professional. The time she spent at USC was quite impressive. She was an All-American as well as Pac-10 Freshman of the Year when she was a teen freshman. The Trojans had the chance to make it to the Final Four with her help. Her personal life was tense after a devastating defeat in her sophomore year however, she was successful in achieving the All-American award. Over the course of the two years she played for the Trojans they helped win consecutive championships. The achievements of each individual have established her as a volleyball legend. Ross was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the top female NCAA player. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Unfortunately, Ross mom Margie never got to see her daughter ascend to the top levels of beach volleyball fame. When Ross was a sophomore in USC her mother passed away due to breast cancer. Ross holds her mother close to her heart. Margie, on the beach as well as in everyday life, continues to inspire her.
